National Blog Posting Month – Day 10
I’m more than a third of the way through this month, about 33 pages into my rough draft edit, and more than a little mental right now. I think I figured out why my fonts were acting crazy this past week, so I’m experimenting to see if they consistently act NOT-crazy for the next week. I think (hope) I have that figured out now.
As far as my edit goes, I’ve already come across some inconsistencies; things where I’d forgotten a joke or that I’d already done something and had characters reacting like it was the first time. So I need to start keeping notes along with everything else. The laptop switcheroo seems to be working well (desktop -> Google Docs -> laptop -> back again), so I think I’m going to keep doing that in documents of about 10 pages. Last time I edited up to page 30. I’m currently working on a document copied from pages 30-40 of my first draft, and next time I’ll work on pages 40-50. So I’ll be creating new documents every 3 days and then copying them back into my original 1st edit document. It sounds confusing, but it seems to be working well.
Now that I’ve figured out a system to use my laptop again, I’m really enjoying the editing process. Chip, chip, chip away! Good luck with all your projects, and have a great day!

I feel bad. I’ve been meaning to leave comments about your progress lately, but it’s been a wee bit hectic. I’m just thankful I keep getting my blogs out in time!
In any event, I’m glad to hear you’re so far into it! I shudder to think what plot holes and inconsistencies I managed to work into my story… but I am curious. What kinds of things have you had to do so far? Just edit for grammar and a little content.
I like hearing things like that, so I figured I’d ask. Anyway, I wish you luck on your editing for the day, and now I’m off to find some food!

So far I’m just editing for grammar and a little content here and there. I’m sort of doing it backwards. All the advice I’ve read says read through the rough draft once, then take notes for plot issues, etc. and then fix grammar. But I just can’t read through the rough draft when all the little typoes drive me nuts. So I’m doing the grammar and noting when I notice inconsistencies. When I am able to read it through because I’ve fixed a lot of the grammar, then I’ll probably notice more plot flaws, etc. and fix those. I expect at least 2 more edits.
